The Daring Do Kid

Man, I have to finish his/my story one day...
Oh yeah-and maybe put some hands on him too :^)

Character Conceptin': Tikki-Tak

This was fun li'l character concept to play with...

The Bully Felton

Another one of those lunch-break sketches...

Halloweenie

Having fun with the star of one of my (many) pic book treatments...

Flight

A "gas-powered" piggie made me laugh.  Someone convinced me to go with it.  He was right...

Friends...(pic book pencils)

...For the obsessive hell of it.

Pic Book Inspiration

A pen sketch for one of my pic book treatments.

NOT Max...!

Another one of those work break-time sketches (man, I love drawing in ballpoint), sitting in the car, waiting to go back into Shawshank Wholesale.  Rough as heck, but it makes me happy.
The little fella's dialogue is a response to a co-worker who thought I had just drawn Max from 'Wild Things'.  Hadn't even dawned on me.
I was actually thinking of Miyazaki at the time...
And there you are :^)

Oh, SIlly Kabloo!

Goofy little sketches like these, in moments of freedom when I'm not chasing my youngest around the house, that make me happy...

This is not a slingshot...

The first image of one of my WIPs.
And there you are.

A Whistling Pig...

Pen & ink of my dear Queenie, riding her snappy little Vespa.
And there you are.

My Viking Years

Woah!  Its been awhile!
Well, here's a character sketch for a book a LOOOONG time in the making, which happens to be a  memoir of sorts, and a "companion" piece to the 'Waffles' sketch.
And there you are.
PS: Yup, that shield is a nod to a favorite 80's game of my youth...

No Time For Waffles!

A ink test thingamabob for a children's book idea of mine.
Little man's essentially a seven year old version of me. I did indeed refer to my mother as "woman" when I was actin' a bit dramatic...
And there you are.

RippleLick

A foil to our "hero", Simon, from the picture book in progress...Wearing my Dr. Seuss influence a bit too much on my sleeve perhaps :)

A Silly Pig in A Silly Wig

Been focused so much on finishing the second draft of this little porcine beauty's story, that I've totally neglected drawing her. It's been a few weeks and I'm rusty as all get-out. But this little ditty was fun...

Monstrously Manuel

From a storybook idea that's waiting in the wings. One tale at a time...
My first real attempt at inking with a brush. It was a lot of fun, felt better than I was expecting.
And there you are.

Pete and Queenie

From my childrens storybook-in-progress...

An 'Imaginary' Prelim

Quick sketch (with a dash of color) of an idea for my children's storybook-in-progress. Taken with my phone on a whim, so its not exactly a great scan.
I like having it somewhere around me while I'm writing, for inspiration, a chance to dream of seeing it on a shelf some day. Creates a sense of urgency...**smile**

An Unfortunate Monster

The first design for a storybook I've been middling around for a bit now tentatively-titled "The Compendium of Unfortunate Monsters, Vol. 1"...

The Nasty F-Hole LeRoux

Inking with a brush is so much fun, and relatively new to me. Sloppy but with a bit of energy. It made me happy working on this this sadistic little goober...

Swirly-Twirly EQB

She was supposed to have legs...but that wasn't as much fun. Magic Pajamas?
Maybe...

This Ain't Your Dad's Mrs. Lovett

Watching Burton's great "Sweeney Todd", sketchbook in hand...

The Viking LaLoosh

I don't know, this fella reminds me of "Nuke Laloosh-era" Tim Robbins.
No, I haven't been drinking...

A Ditty While Watching 'Baron Munchausen'...

T'was a quiet New Year's Eve at the homestead. While wifey and the girls slumbered, I partook in a little of Terry Gilliam's neo-classic, "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen".
Terry Gilliam is a mad genius.
So is camera guy Giuseppe Rotunno.
And designer Dante Ferretti is as well.
Anways: sketched away during the film. The sequence at the Sultan's palace is simply amazing...

Darque Sketches

Morning warm-up sketches from a story idea I've been noodling around with lately, sort of an all-ages friendly Nightbreed.
Damn, does that even make sense?

Dirty Old Piece of Crap

My humble attempt at Mignola's "Emperor Zombie", from the neo-masterpiece, Amazing Screw-On Head...

King Max Rumpus Dance!

Work on my children's book has finally begun. Work in progress...an obvious nod to Sendak and King Max...;)

I say, Sir Piff!

I don't know who this gentleman is, but I like him. Starting to find my "voice" a little bit here...

Big Red...in B&W

I love Hellboy.
I LOVE Mignola.
The series has reached an all-time peak with the he's-so-fantastic-I-hate-his-f***ing-guts Duncan Fegredo hopping onboard.
I kinda like this sketch. One of the rare moments where I didn't instantly hate what I just sketched...
